WELCOME TO N.P.OGAREV MORDOVIA STATE UNIVERSITY
N.P.Ogarev Mordovia State University now boasting a status of a National research university is a Federal state budgetary academic institution of higher education offering the whole spectrum of academic programmes for undergraduate, graduate and post graduate students; among its core activity is fundamental and applied research, further training and qualification improvement courses for teaching staff and scholars. It is the major higher education institution in the Republic. By the Federal government edict dated of 20th May 2010 Ogarev Mordovia State University was conferred a category “National research university”.
Founded in 1931 as the Agronomy Pedagogical Institute it gradually expanded and granted the University status in 1957. Its appearance was a milestone in the evolution of quality education in the Republic of Mordovia. The great majority (about 75%) of eligible Mordovian students attend Ogarev Mordovia State University. This determines its pivotal role as a centre of education, research, culture and services for Mordovia and its people.
Ogarev Mordovia State University is situated in Saransk (popul. 298,000), capital of the Republic of Mordovia, 620 kilometers south east of Moscow. With its 28 academic buildings, 12 residence halls (9 for undergraduate students and 3 for graduate students and academic staff) it is active in other Mordovian towns where it has 2 filiations.
Teaching staff is of some 1.700 (13,5% of doctors, full professors and 66% of seniour lecturers).
Prospective students can choose from a variety of 133 available tracks of undergraduate and graduate study and concentration areas within full-time, part-time and evening programmes.
The University has a student population composed of over 13.000 full timers, 8.000 part timers and 240 evening students. There are also over 300 international students.
Full time curriculum covers either 4 or 5-year periods of study depending on degree programme; evening and part-time education requires 6 years.
Bachelor degrees are conferred upon completion of a 4-year period of study. Medical Institute offers 6 and 7-year programmes of study respectively.
The learning and teaching methods focus on direct contact with students through lectures, workshops and practical classes. Throughout their course students are expected to complete theoretical and practical tasks and assignments and to undertake tests and final examinations at the end of each semester.
Mordovia State University confers the following academic qualifications:
Bachelor Degree Diploma (4-year programme of study);
Diploma of Higher Education (5-year programme of study);
Master Degree Diploma (2 more years after completion of a Bachelor degree programme;
Diploma of Kandidat Nauk degree/PhD 1st level (further 3 years within the chosen field of study and thesis defended upon completion of a graduate study period);
Diploma of Doctor Nauk/Doctorskaya degree (three more years of a postgraduate study after Kandidat Nauk degree culminated in presenting dissertation).
Upon successful completion of above programmes the graduates receive a diploma approved by the Russian Federal Ministry of Science and Education.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
International students can make enquiries as to admissions policy in all available tracks of study and pre-diploma programmes of study (Russian language course) before the 1st of August, the year proceeding the new academic year (commencing 1st September).
Formally the application process starts with your documentation being placed for review in order to make sure whether you are eligible or not to have studies at Mordovian State University. All applicants are required to submit to the international office electronically or by fax the copies of documents listed below in order to have a student visa invitation issued:
1. Your international passport;
2. Secondary school diploma with academic results (FSc, A-level, HSSC or equivalent).
On arrival you should submit the following documents to the international office:
3. An original copy and a translation of your secondary school diploma with the summary of academic records;
4. An original copy and a translation of your university or college diplomas with the summary of academic records (if applicable);
5. Certificate of equivalence for all academic documents;
6. AIDS testing report.
Diplomas or certificates confirming the completion of education (all applicable levels) in the country of applicant are to be submitted for attestation to the Federal Supervision Service in Education and Science (Rosobrnadzor) in Russia.
Applicants unable to provide the certificate of equivalence are eligible to apply only for pre-diploma academic programmes taught at the Faculty of Pre-diploma Studies.
Originals of the above documentation together with passport, entry visa and migration card, personal dossier, 10 color photos 3x4 are to be submitted to the International office upon arrival.
International applicants, eligible to apply for degree programmes, are required to have an interview in Russian in three disciplines depending on degree programme of his/her choice.
Enrollment for pre-diploma studies is based on submitted documentation only.
Before enrollment all international students are liable to pay:
The visa invitation fee (It takes 1 month to have the invitation issued)
Medical insurance for a free medical service at the students’ polyclinic – 6000 Russian Rubles per year.
International students are required to inform the International Office about the exact dates of their arrival at least two weeks before this date.

EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES:
STUDENT COUNCIL
Active, creative and concerned with research young people are welcome to the Students Council of the University. Throughout the academic year a lot of academic, scientific, cultural, athletic, informational-analytical and socio-economical activities are organized by the Council. The Students Council of the University was set up on the 15th of April 1987. It unites the Students Councils of the faculties, institutes and the campus and operates as a self-government body within the University, facilitates the students involvement in the managerial supervision over the academic activities, ensures the efficacy of the education, develops personal creativity in frames of curricular and scientific activities.
SPORTS AND SOCIAL SPHERE
Sport plays a great role in the university life. The students are permanently participating and winning various contests in soccer, volleyball, basketball, field athletics and many other sport competitions. Sports facilities of the University include 4 gyms, 2 recreational complexes, 3 ski bases. In 2011 a university swimming pool was put into operation as part of the project "500 Swimming Pools" facilitated by the party "United Russia". Traditional Spartakiada Games "Health" and Intercollegiate Student Games in 13 kinds of sports take place on the annual basis. Our students successfully participate and win prizes in the federal and international competitions.
CULTURE AND ARTS CENTRE OF N.P.OGAREV MORDOVIAN STATE UNIVERSITY
The creative team of the Centre is organizing all-university activities, concerts, themed evenings, methodically facilitates the celebrative activities, festive occasions, contests and festivals at the University, cooperates with the social and artistic bodies of Mordovia and Russia.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS ACCOMMODATION IN THE HOSTELS
Mordovia State University welcomes international and non-local students and provides them with comfortable living conditions at 13 hostels (halls of residence). Eleven of them are located on campus, two on remoted campuses in Ruzayevka and Kovylkono). Hostels currently accommodate more than 4500 students.
Two more de luxe halls of residence were opened in 2010 to accommodate more than 1000 students. They are located in Moskovskaya and B. Khmelnitsky streets and offer comfortable rooms, each has a cable TV, a fridge, a shower cabin. Equipped with external video surveillance system and a card reading system on entry doors, it makes them the safest place for living. Among the facilities are computer classes with an Internet access, laundry rooms, performance halls and fitness rooms. Here you will find all necessary conditions to pursue studies and have adequate rest. Accommodation fee is less than 5 % of regular scholarship. All international applicants are placed at halls of residence should they opt for it.
There are some hostels specially renovated on request and guidelines of Dr. Dhermandra Kumar, who himself is an Indian and knows the cultural, educational and residential requirements of an Indian student studying in Russia. The rules and regulations for residing in these hostels are very strict, again from the cultural system as in any Indian family. (Please read Rules and regulations for residing in the hostel.)
For students who get admission through New Era Educational Consultants it is compulsory to live in the hostel.
The system of residence is separate for boys and girls, 2 and 3 seated big rooms, upgraded comforts, central heating, full furniture with beddings, room has a balcony with picturesque view, shower room, toilet, washbasin room, everyday cleaning of rooms, cable TV with Indian News & Informative Channels, Free Internet in every room, security guards, reception, laundry, cleaning and washing personnel, reading rooms, computer hall, Internet hall, recreation hall, 24 hour medical center, well equipped Gymnasiums with hi-tech machines with personal trainers.
One office complex of Dr. Dhermindra Kumar is situated in one of these hostels itself to facilitate all services to students, so that students do not have to waste their valuable time in various daily life problems. Here all documentation and any problem related with administration, studies, residence or daily life can be taken care of.
An Indian Mess is operating on the premises, where 3 Indian cooks are working. A total staff of more than 20 persons is working here including cooks, assistant cooks, waitresses etc. Mess is operating on two systems:

Cultural Activities:
The Cultural center organises cultural programs, in which students of various parts of the world take part. Every year an Indian cultural program is ,in which Indian and Russian students participate and show glimpses of Culture of India.
Sport Complex:
The sport complex consists of a playground, a well-equipped gymnasium, two big sport halls, swimming pool with sauna bath and two shooting galleries, which can be used by all sport enthusiasts. Many universities have their own skiing base.

CURRENT INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
The outset of international co-operation of N.P. Ogarev Mordovia State University can be dated back to 1987. It is at the end of 80-ies - beginning of 90-ies that the university accepted several numerous groups of students from Afghanistan, Vietnam and India.
By now more than 500 former graduates work in different countries of the world: Australia, Algeria, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Germany, Egypt, India, Jordan, Iraq, Iran, Spain, Yemen, Cameroon, Canada, China, Korea, Laos, Lebanon, Nepal, United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, USA, Syria, Soudan, France, Sri Lanka, and also the so called CIS (former SU republics) countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Turkmenistan, Estonia.
There are currently over 300 international students from 30 countries having classes at the various faculties and institutes: most popular are the institute of medicine, national and folk culture institute, physics and chemistry institute, mechanics and power engineering institute, history and sociology institute, institute of mechanical engineering; law faculty, economics, foreign languages, architecture and construction engineering, geography, faculty of pre-diploma studies.
The international graduates can also apply for clinical residency, postgraduate studies and individual programmes of further training. Those, who have little knowledge of Russian have to apply for a course of Russian language at the Faculty of pre-diploma studies and secondary vocational education.
Upon completion their studies at the Faculty of pre-diploma studies the international applicants get admittance to one of the 18 faculties (institutes) depending on chosen specialisation. The regular programme of study last for 4 years (full time) and 5 years (part time), at the institute of Medicine – 6 and 7 years correspondently. Master’s Degree Programme comprises 2 more years after completion of a regular curriculum.
International students have equal rights with local applicants in all applicable programmes be it undergraduate, graduate or post graduate studies. The university pursues a policy of tolerance and cross-cultural dialogue to ensure successful adaptation and interaction with and between international students on campuses.
The university offers the short-term courses in Russian language, where the content and forms of studies are determined by the level of a student’s preparedness and his interests.
Programmes of further training (one month or more) are offered for those, who are willing to deepen their knowledge of a specific research problem.
Tuition fees and available tracks of study are determined by the University Senate for each academic year prior to commencement of the Admission Campaign.
All international applicants are placed at a comfortable halls of residence.

SARANSK AND MORDOVIA
Republic of Mordovia
Mordovia is situated in the centre of the European part of Russia at the intersection of the most important transport arteries connecting Moscow – Samara – Nizhniy Novgorod – Saratov. It borders the regions of Nizhniy Novgorod, Ryazan, Penza, Ulyanovsk and Chuvashia being a part of Volga Federal District. Population – 800 thousand people.
The climate is temperate continental. At the junction of the woodland and steppe natural zones the rivers Moksha, Alatyr and Sura are flowing through the virgin woods and vast fields. In general there are 114 large and small rivers and 500 lakes. In Mordovia there are more than 100 areas of outstanding natural beauty including Simkino Lanscape Reserve, Mordovian Natural Reserve named after P.G.Smidovich and National Park "Smolny".
Mordovia is a multinational republic. Throughout the centuries the Russians, Mordovians (Erzya and Moksha) and Tatars live here side by side. State languages are Russian, Erzya and Moksha. At the current years the republic is turning to the real centre of the Ugro-Finnish world. The Mordovian expats come here to study, work and live. In 2012 Russia celebrates 1000-year anniversary of the Mordovian People unity with the Peoples of the Russian State.
FAMOUS COUNTRYMEN
Patriarch Nikon, the most influential reformer of the Russian Orthodox Church and his opponent Protopope Avvakum both were the Mordovians. There are many legends about Alena of Temnikov – the nun who joined the army of Stepan Razin and consequently burned down being convicted in witchcraft. In the XX the famous sculptor Stepan Erzya globally glorified his small motherland, he had been staying in Argentina for a long time finally returning back home to Russia and bringing back the most of his masterpieces. His best works are exhibited in the Museum of Arts named in his honour. Legendary pilot Mikhail Devyataev, general Maxim Purkaev, Marshal Sergey Akhromeev and cosmonaut Vladimir Dezhurov all had been born in Mordovian villages.
Saransk
Saransk is not only one of the oldest cities in Middle Volga Region and the Mordovias capital, but also a true university city. Every tenth of its citizens either studies or works at N.P.Ogarev Mordovian State University, the largest university of the Volga Region. Among other academic institutions, apart from University, there are Evsevyev Teachers’ Training Institute, Saransk Institute of Consumers’ Cooperatives and Institutes of Humanities.
Saransk has a typical history of a provincial city. Founded in 1641 as a military fortress on the border of the Russian state it became the capital of Mordovia in 1934. The names of its citizens famous far over the Russian borders are listed in the citys annals. A democratic poet A.I.Polezhaev, outstanding artists I.K.Makarov and F.V.Sychkov, classics of the Mordovian music L.P.Kiryukov and I.M.Yaushev lived here at different times.
Current population of Saransk counts 300 thousand people. The city has railway and bus stations. An airport of Saransk is able to accept airplanes of any class. The "Mordovian Air-Lines" provide fast delivery from Saransk to Moscow and St Petersburg, Penza and Sochi. The distances from Saransk to main cities: Moscow – 642 km; St Peterburg – 1080 km; Nizhny Novgorod – 330 km; Samara – 460 km; Ulyanovsk – 300 km; Penza – 140 km; Ryazan – 460 km. There are around 300 streets, eight squares, three parks and the Zoo in Saransk. During the recent years many new buildings, parks and monuments have been set up here.
Modern Saransk is an important industrial centre and the city of the talented people – scientists, students and athletes. The capital of the republic is rapidly developing acquiring the unique appearance. A beautiful Cathedral has been erected in the memory of the St Warrior Fedor Ushakov the former being sanctified by the Patriarch Alexei II. Not long ago Saransk was decorated with the new embankment of Saranka-river with its dozen of fountains, new building of the railway station, National and Musical Theatres, new campus buildings of Mordovian State University.Numerous cultural attractions are neighboring modern sportive constructions of the world level – a majestic sport complex "Mordovia", Ice Palace, S.A.Tarpishchev Tennis School for Juniour Tennis Players, stadium "Start", biathlon complex and the only Russian indoor velodrome.
